Report Shows Terror Recruitment in U.S. Still a Problem - FoxNews.com

Report Shows Terror Recruitment in U.S. Still a Problem - FoxNews.com: "A new report released by Republicans on the House Homeland Security Committee shows there's still a threat of Americans being recruited by Somali terror group and Al Qaeda ally Al Shabaab for the purpose of carrying out attacks in the U.S.

Committee chairman Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y. held a hearing Wednesday on Al Shabaab recruiting in America. It was the third in a series of controversial 'Muslim radicalization' hearings King has called.

'The key finding is that there is a looming danger of American Shabaab fighters returning to the U.S. to strike or helping Al Qaeda and its affiliates attack the homeland,' the report reads. 'U.S. intelligence underestimated the Pakistani Taliban and Al Qaeda in Yemen's capability of launching attacks here; we cannot afford to make the same mistake with Shabaab.'

The report says at least 40 Americans have joined the terror group and 15 have been killed fighting for them. It also says 21 American Shabaab members are unaccounted for and that they pose a threat to U.S. security.

Many Democrats have bemoaned King's series of radicalization hearings, and while the ranking member of the committee Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., says Shabaab is an issue, he downplays its importance and says other types of terror should be focused on as well."

GOP's Foreign Aid Cuts Could Dramatically Increase Unsafe Abortions

GOP's Foreign Aid Cuts Could Dramatically Increase Unsafe Abortions: "House Republicans' proposed cuts to international family planning programs could result in 1.3 million more unsafe abortions around the world, 9.4 million people without access to contraceptives, 7,700 maternal deaths and more than 35,000 additional orphans, according to a reproductive health research organization.

A Republican-led subcommittee approved a foreign spending bill on Wednesday that cuts family planning funding overseas by $154 million and codifies the Global Gag Rule, which blocks all U.S. money to foreign aid programs that provide or counsel women on abortions. An estimated 21 million unsafe abortions are carried out worldwide annually, and as the Guttmacher Institute points out, restricting access (legal or otherwise) to abortion does not reduce the incidence of abortion, but 'does, however, affect the safety of abortion.'

Subcommittee chair Kay Granger (R-Texas) said the bill reflects the 'new realities' of the global recession."

Deteriorating Transportation Infrastructure Could Cost America $3.1 Trillion

Deteriorating Transportation Infrastructure Could Cost America $3.1 Trillion: "New tires add up. That's the finding of a report issued Wednesday by the American Society for Civil Engineers, which tallies up the cost of our decaying surface transportation infrastructure, from potholes to rusting bridges to buses that never come.

The engineers found that overall, the cost of failing to invest more in the nation's roads and bridges would total $3.1 trillion in lost GDP growth by 2020. For workers, the toll of investing only at current levels would be equally daunting: 877,000 jobs would also be lost. Already, the report found, deficient and deteriorating surface transportation cost us $130 billion in 2010.

By and large those costs would not come from the more dramatic failings of America's transportation system -- like the collapse of the I-35W Bridge in Minnesota -- but more mundane or even invisible problems. The minivan that hits a pothole chips away at a family's income. The clogged highway that drains away an extra half hour of a trucker's day also drives up the cost of shipping for businesses."

Wells Fargo Target Of Justice Department Probe; Agency Alleges Discriminatory Lending

Wells Fargo Target Of Justice Department Probe; Agency Alleges Discriminatory Lending: "WASHINGTON -- The Department of Justice is preparing a lawsuit against Wells Fargo, the nation's largest home mortgage lender, for allegedly preying upon African American borrowers during the housing bubble and steering them into high-cost subprime loans, according to three people with direct knowledge of the probe.

The company, the fourth-largest U.S. bank by assets, is currently embroiled in pre-lawsuit negotiations with the Justice Department in hopes it will settle the accusations and avoid a public lawsuit, these people said.

The allegations mirror those in public actions taken by the Federal Reserve and a separate lawsuit filed by the city of Baltimore."

Cenk Uygur: Al Sharpton Is Replacing Me Because He's Friendlier To Obama (VIDEO)

Cenk Uygur: Al Sharpton Is Replacing Me Because He's Friendlier To Obama (VIDEO): "Cenk Uygur continued his anti-MSNBC tour on CNN's 'Reliable Sources' Sunday--and he suggested that he was getting replaced because Al Sharpton, the man all-but-certain to succeed him as the network's 6 PM host, is friendlier to the White House.

Uygur left MSNBC very publicly last week, claiming that the network implied to him that his anti-Washington 'tone' was not in keeping with the 'establishment' bent that MSNBC was trying to cultivate. MSNBC has strongly denied the claims, insisting that it was just giving Uygur television style tips.

Speaking to a slightly skeptical Howard Kurtz, Uygur repeated his charges. Kurtz said that Uygur seemed not to have any direct evidence that MSNBC was caving to political pressure by admonishing him. Uygur replied that he didn't know who the 'people in Washington' that MSNBC Phil Griffin said had a problem with him were. Then, he turned to Sharpton."

Hummer Discontinued, Joins Other Now-Defunct Famous Car Brands (PHOTOS)

Hummer Discontinued, Joins Other Now-Defunct Famous Car Brands (PHOTOS): "GM announced today it has discontinued its Hummer brand, hardly the first such announcement in recent years.

The end of brands isn't exactly surprising. Auto journalist Steve Parker declared the Pontiac, Hummer, Saab and Saturn brands all dead on HuffPost in April 2009.

Ironically today, Saab was finally sold to a Dutch company, a brand GM previously announced it would be discontinuing. But those other brands haven't been so fortunate.

GM had been trying to sell the Hummer brand, but those talks failed."
