FBI crackdown nabs pimps, rescues children - CNN.com: Washington (CNN) -- They are mostly teenage girls, often from broken homes where no one misses them. Their world is one of drugs and abuse -- emotional and physical -- in which they are forced to sell their bodies.
In announcing the FBI's latest crackdown on child prostitution, officials Monday described a dark underside of society that has grown through Internet sites that provide pimps easy access to johns in hotels, motels, at truck stops and just about anywhere else.
The nationwide operation over the weekend resulted in 150 arrests, with 105 children between the ages of 13 and 17 rescued, according to Ron Hosko, assistant director of the FBI's Criminal Investigative Division.

Here's what an eavesdropper sees when you use an unsecured Wi-Fi hotspot | PCWorld
Here's what an eavesdropper sees when you use an unsecured Wi-Fi hotspot | PCWorld: You’ve probably read at least one story with warnings about using unsecure public Wi-Fi hotspots, so you know that eavesdroppers can capture information traveling over those networks. But nothing gets the point across as effectively as seeing the snooping in action. So I parked myself at my local coffee shop the other day to soak up the airwaves and see what I could see.
My intent wasn't to hack anyone's computer or device—that's illegal—but just to listen. It’s similar to listening in on someone’s CB or walkie-talkie radio conversation. Like CBs and walkie-talkies, Wi-Fi networks operate on public airwaves that anyone nearby can tune into.

Russian Neo-Nazis Allegedly Lure, Torture Gay Teens With Online Dating Scam
Russian Neo-Nazis Allegedly Lure, Torture Gay Teens With Online Dating Scam: A neo-Nazi group in Russia has apparently enacted a disturbing campaign against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth by allegedly using a popular social network to lure in victims and torture them.
The Spectrum Human Rights Alliance (SHRA), an LGBT rights group focusing on Eastern Europe, claims the campaigns -- called "Occupy Pedophilyaj" and "Occupy Gerontilyaj" -- were launched by former skinhead and Russian ultranationalist Maxim Martsinkevich to purportedly identify and report pedophiles. However, the group's method may be to target male teens who respond to same-sex personals ads on Russia's Facebook equivalent, VK.com. Group members are said to meet the boys when they show up for the supposed date; they bully the boys and even torture them, all while recording the encounters on camera.

"I feel more imminent about a team being in here, that it's more imminent than any time since we haven't had a team in Los Angeles," Jones said (via Dan Hanzus of NFL.com). "And yes, this market is a huge market, it's a little bit of a black eye for all of us to have had this many years and not had an NFL team in Los Angeles.

Crocodile Bites Head Of Trainer Pravit Suebmee In Thailand (GRAPHIC VIDEO)
Crocodile Bites Head Of Trainer Pravit Suebmee In Thailand (GRAPHIC VIDEO): Some crocodiles can bite with a force of 3,700 pounds per square inch. So it's remarkable that a trainer in Thailand managed to escape with just minor injuries after a crocodile clamped down on his head Sunday.
In graphic video of the incident, Pravit Suebmee, 27, can be seen rubbing the croc's snout with sticks as a partner holds the reptile's tail. Suebmee then says a prayer and begins to insert his head into its mouth. Moments later, the croc bites down and begins to shake with Suebmee caught in its jaws. He breaks free about a half-second later.

Meet Weiner's Latest Sexting Partner - BuzzFeed identifies her as Sydney Elaine Leathers: Newser) – BuzzFeed has identified Anthony Weiner's newly revealed sexting partner as Sydney Elaine Leathers, a progressive activist in her early 20s who lives in Indiana. Pictures on her Facebook and Formspring accounts look pretty close to the blurred images offered up on The Dirty when it broke the sexting story, and she's talked about Weiner quite a bit online (often on accounts that are now deleted). For example, in a June 2011 Facebook post, she declared: "Rep. Weiner can continue sending dick pics every single day for the rest of his life as long as he continues to legislate like he does. I decided." Her TwitPic account identifies her as an Obama for America field organizer.
Luxury cruise fails surprise health inspection
(CNN) -- A surprise inspection by the Centers for Disease Control has resulted in a failing grade for one of the plushest cruise ships afloat.
According to a report by the CDC's Vessel Sanitation Program, the cruise ship Silver Shadow was cited repeatedly for using an "organized effort" to remove 15 trolleys of food from the ship's galley to individual crew cabins to "avoid inspection."
The snap inspection of the Silver Shadow on June 17 in Skagway, Alaska, was conducted after an anonymous crew member sent still photographs to the CDC showing meat in crew cabin sinks and trays of food in the corridors in the hallways outside those cabins.
It resulted in a failing grade of 82 for the Silver Shadow. Any grade less than 84 is considered "less than satisfactory," according to the VSP website.

Ted Nugent Blasts Stevie Wonder's 'Brain-Dead' Boycott, 'Hoodlum, Dope-Smoking Trayvon Martin': Ted Nugent provided a predictably unhinged response to Stevie Wonder's decision to not perform in Florida after the George Zimmerman verdict, telling WXBR that he found the decision "brain-dead."
"You've got to be kidding me," he said. "So 700 black people, mostly young children and young people were slaughtered in Chicago last year by black people, and not a peep out of Stevie Wonder. Are you kidding me? What is this, 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'? How brain-dead do you have to be? Vermont town worried over high-risk sex offender's release | Fox News: SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – The hours are ticking down toward the release from prison of Timothy J. Szad, a sex offender deemed so dangerous that Vermont authorities are taking the unusual step of not only warning the public but cautioning that blue-eyed, blond-haired boys of 12 or 13 could be in particular peril.
Some parents are worried in Szad's hometown of Springfield -- where he was planning to move in with his parents, until they backed out because of threats -- and the police chief in the community of 9,000 is urging people to be alert.

Did missed connections in murder case open door to Boston bombings? - CNN.com: Waltham, Massachusetts (CNN) -- Jamal Abu Rubieh, owner of the Brookline Lunch cafe, knew something wasn't right when Brendan Mess and Erik Weissman sat quietly in a back corner booth that August night in 2011.
Gone was the usual boisterous banter typical of their regular visits. Abu Rubieh says things became even more tense when a bald, blue-eyed man twice their age arrived. The three talked for about an hour.
"He sounded different and he acted different, the guy with them, and they all were, like, nervous," Abu Rubieh said. "And that time, (Mess) was really serious and he wasn't himself."

Two 7-Year-Old Boys, Two Dramatically Different News Stories (VIDEO): Leontine G. sent in a troubling example of the framing of children’s deviance, and their own complicity in this framing. USC Student: Police Said I Wasn't Raped Because He Didn't Orgasm: The University of Southern California is facing a federal investigation for alleged failures by school officials and campus police to prosecute rape.
In response to a Title IX complaint filed in May, the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights launched the inquiry on June 26, although complainants only received notice over the weekend that the investigation had begun. A group of 13 students, along with several other unnamed students, claim they suffered from extensive failures on the part of USC administrators and the Department of Public Safety in responding to reports of sexual violence on campus.
OCR program manager Charles R. Love confirmed in a letter to USC student Tucker Reed, obtained by The Huffington Post, that the agency is investigating allegations the university failed to prosecute and adjudicate claims of sexual violence and to respond promptly to complaints of harassment on campus. Such failures would be violations of Title IX, a federal gender equality law.

Security | ThinkProgress
Security | ThinkProgress: An annual report published this spring by the Department of Defense revealed the pervasive sexual assault problem in our armed forces. The Pentagon estimated that 26,000 service members were victims of sexual assault in 2012, a 34 percent increase from 2010.
While the numbers are staggering, many have attacked the quality of the data in an effort to downplay the problem at hand and resist efforts to curtail incidents of sexual assault. Pentagon JAG Captain Lindsay Rodman recently called the 26,000 figure “bad math,” and suggested the reported number of sexual assaults is exaggerated. Others have claimed that sexual harassment is included in the 26,000 sexual assault victim estimate, thereby diluting the data and minimalizing the problem.

Conservative Paper Invokes Lynching In Anti-Sharpton Editorial Cartoon | ThinkProgress: Investors’ Business Daily, a business newspaper widely viewed as having a conservative editorial page, decided to dip its toes into racial politics over the weekend with a political cartoon about the case of Trayvon Martin. But instead of presenting a valid criticism of the negative reactions to George Zimmerman’s not guilty verdict, the publication invoked lynchings — one of the great tragedies committed against Black Americans — to try to make its point.

Here's Florida’s Next Trayvon Martin Case | Mother Jones: A white man named Michael Dunn shot and killed an unarmed black teenager named Jordan Davis in Florida last year after a brief dispute. The prosecutor overseeing the case is Florida state attorney Angela Corey. Dunn, who will be tried for murder, claims the shooting was in self-defense. Sound familiar?
The killing took place in November 2012, while Dunn was parked at a gas station convenience store, waiting for his girlfriend to emerge from inside. Four teenagers, including 17-year-old Davis, were parked* next to Dunn's car in an SUV. After an argument over the teens' loud music, Dunn fired on the boys from his car, killing Davis. Dunn claims he opened fire only after one of the teens threatened his life, brandished a gun, and started to exit the SUV. Later he told police that he had "never been so scared" in his life

Ohio police say body count could rise in murder case | Fox News
Ohio police say body count could rise in murder case | Fox News: EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio – The police chief of a Cleveland suburb told searchers Sunday that he believes there could be one or two more victims in addition to the three bodies found in the neighborhood earlier.
Police Chief Ralph Spotts told volunteers checking vacant houses to be alert for smells of rotting. He declined to elaborate on other possible victims. East Cleveland Mayor Gary Norton said authorities have a lot of reasons to suspect there are more, but he refused to say why.
A 35-year-old registered sex offender arrested after a police standoff Friday is a suspect in the deaths, Norton said. The suspect, from East Cleveland, has indicated he might have been influenced by Cleveland serial killer Anthony Sowell, who was convicted in 2011 and sentenced to death, Norton said. As of Sunday morning, the man hadn't been charged.
"He said some things that led us to believe that in some way, shape, or form, Sowell might be an influence," Norton told The Associated Press.
In the most recent case, one body was found Friday in a garage. Two others were found Saturday -- one in a backyard and the other in the basement of a vacant house. The bodies, believed to be female, were found about 100 to 200 yards apart, and authorities believed the victims were killed in the last six to 10 days.

John McCain: Arizona's Stand Your Ground Law Should Be Reviewed
John McCain: Arizona's Stand Your Ground Law Should Be Reviewed: Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said on Sunday that while he does not question the decision of the jury in the Trayvon Martin case, he does think all states, including his own, should review their "stand your ground" laws.
"No one I know of has said this case is flawed or corrupt, or that there's anything wrong with the system of justice," McCain told Candy Crowley on CNN's Face the Nation. "I can also see that the stand your ground law may be something that needs to be reviewed by the Florida Legislature or any other Legislature.
